The Upstart Crow Theatre Company Opens Its 46th Season with Much Ado About Nothing

Shakespeare’s comedy of wit, deception, love, and forgiveness runs August 27 through September 6 at the Dairy Arts Center

BOULDER, Colo. The Upstart Crow Theatre Company opens its 46th season with William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, presented August 27 through September 6 in the Carsen Theater at the Dairy Arts Center. Sparring couple Beatrice and Benedick, and pompous constable Dogberry enliven Shakespeare’s popular comedy about the risks of love and forgiveness.

One of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, Much Ado About Nothing follows the sharp-tongued Beatrice and Benedick, whose friends scheme to bring the sparring pair together. Their lighthearted deception produces comic results, but a more dangerous lie by the villainous Don John threatens the relationship between Claudio and Hero, placing a young woman’s reputation at risk and straining loyalties to the brink of a duel.

As the consequences unfold, Hero’s father must choose between his family’s honor and the daughter he thought he knew. Benedick finds himself torn between friendship and love. Meanwhile, the pompous constable Dogberry remains determined to make certain everyone knows he has been insulted.

Director Jeremy Elman explores the grit beneath the comedy, revealing the deception, vulnerability, and difficult work of forgiveness that drive the play. The result is a production that is fast, sharp, funny, and unexpectedly human.

Blending verbal combat, romantic intrigue, and genuine emotional stakes, Much Ado About Nothing examines the courage required to move beyond deflection and embrace vulnerability, trust, and love.

The Thursday performances on August 27 and September 3 are Name-Your-Price Nights.

No tickets or reservations are required. Seating is available on a first-come, first-seated basis. Donations may be made by cash, check, or QR code.

Denver Actors Fund Benefit and Industry Night

The Monday, August 31 performance at 7:00 p.m. will benefit the Denver Actors Fund.

No tickets or reservations are required. Seating is available on a first-come, first-seated basis. Donations may be made by cash, check, or QR code. All proceeds from the performance will benefit the Denver Actors Fund.

Post-Show Talkback

Audience members are invited to remain after the Sunday, August 30 matinee for a discussion of the play and production with members of the cast and director Jeremy Elman.

Tickets

Tickets for all regularly ticketed performances range from $24 to $28 and must be purchased through the Dairy Arts Center Box Office.
